Shortly after, however, it became necessary for PIA to downsize, selling both a recently purchased Powerplant Department and the three-story Graham Building on Lebanon Church Road. History The Roosevelt Hotel, opened on September 23, 1924, was built by Niagara Falls businessman Frank A. Dudley and operated by the United Hotels Company . [2] The hotel was designed by the architecture firm George B. Post & Son , and leased from The New York State Realty and Terminal Company, a division of the New York Central Railroad .
Now named the International Skydiving Museum and Hall of Fame, PIA was among the first contributors to the then-known PIA/USPA/Museum of Sport Parachuting and Air Safety with an initial philanthropic investment of $25,000. The organization sustained annual operations support of the Museum for nearly 15 years before transitioning to the dinner sponsor. On 29th April, 1964, with a Boeing 720B, PIA earned the distinction of becoming the first airline from a non-communist country to fly into the People’s Republic of China. PIA’s first service to China was from Karachi to Shanghai via Canton. In 1964-65, PIA expanded its fleet further with the addition of a fourth Boeing 720B and two Fokker F-27s. In 1963 PIA called off its New York service, but on 29 April 1964 became the first non-communist airline to operate a service to the Chinese city of Shanghai. A notable feature of PIA's domestic routes in East Pakistan for some time was the helicopter services operated with Sikorsky S-61N's.
